Essentially we attract a student centred crowd of young partygoers who are looking for a great night at discounted prices.
Whilst this has proved a winning formula over many years of trading, we have not been without our fair share of problems resulting from intoxicated youths and anti-social behaviour; I am sure most licensed trade operators can relate to such issues.
It is therefore essential that we, as a business, comply with all health and safety regulations and have adequate insurance to fully protect us in the event of a claim. Until three years ago this would not have been the case, however in 2010 I employed the services of NDML, specialist Insurance Brokers for the late night leisure industry and have never looked back since.
The professionalism in which they conduct their business is both remarkable and refreshing.
Prior to our involvement with NDML, our previous insurers were settling an average of 50% of the public liability claims that the business had suffered, often through no fault of our own; most if not all of these claims, were either fraudulent or at best vexatious. As a result we were paying a significant excess on each of the settled claims thus our insurance costs were sky rocketing. It became apparent that our previous insurance brokers were inept at defending such spurious claims despite the fact that there was good evidence and systems in place to repudiate such claims.
Since working in partnership with NDML, our loss ratio is 0% and our success rate 100%!
In addition to the above, when NDML carried out a comprehensive and thorough review of our insurance requirements (which they did in person not over the telephone), it came to light that the buildings reinstatement value was underinsured by a 3rd, this had never been addressed by our previous insurers and broker, or at least the question was never asked!
NDML immediately advised me of the average clause and the consequences of under insurance. By placing the risk with their panel of A’ rated insurers, the sum of the buildings increased to the correct value. Inevitably this meant a higher premium to pay initially but which has since been recuperated due to fewer monies paid in compensation; as a result our premium continues to decrease year on year.
As a business we are now better protected, better supported and better off financially!
When it comes to matters of Health and safety in the licensed trade there is no room for mistakes and as such I use a specifically designed computer programme to asses our needs and ensure our staff members are trained and knowledgeable on such issues. With the support of NDML these practices continue to develop and improve.
I feel it absolutely necessary to also highlight the professional manner in which any claims have been dealt with by NDML. Being in-house definitely benefits their business as it allows for excellent communication between all necessary parties, including the customer who is kept well-informed. The claims management team display confidence, intelligence and integrity at every opportunity and I feel completely reassured knowing they are acting on our behalf; I can understand why they continue to win industry awards.
In short, I recommend any business that operates a complex venue such as ours to utilise the help of NDML.
