Re-opening Handbook for the Hospitality & Leisure Industry

Many businesses have been waiting patiently to reopen and return to normality.

As Scotland and Wales join England in removing most restrictions, the government continues to urge businesses and members of the public to return to normal gradually and exercise caution. This may mean continuing to wear masks in very crowded public places, utilising the NHS app to display vaccination or test records, or behaving sensibly when distancing from each other.

As there will be undoubtedly be ongoing impacts on your business despite restrictions being lifted, we have developed an updated version of our reopening guide covering all the latest guidance which you can access and download below.

Please note, the risk assessments included in this guide are for information only. With government guidance changing so rapidly, it’s important to ensure you seek advice for any updates to your risk assessments to ensure you remain safe and compliant.

Our Back in Business Re-opening handbook includes guidance on:

Health & Safety and Risk Management

Take a look at our re-opening toolkit, including COVID-19 risk assessment, to ensure you can effectively reduce the risk to your employees and customers to an acceptable level.

The information includes bringing your people back to work safely, such as completing a screening questionnaire, providing clear staff instructions, the use of PPE and looking after employee mental health. It also details what infection control measures you should implement, including day-to-day changes that will need to be put in place.

Staff fatigue can set in for employees who have been furloughed over an extended period of time. They may need to relearn procedures, adapt to new procedures, or be treated as an introductory staff member. To learn more about staff fatigue, read our article here.

HR & Employment

Venues may have questions about the best way to support the workforce when reopening. A return to the workplace will not necessarily mean a return to full capacity and in fact, measures put into place to ensure social distancing may reduce a company’s ability to have all employees in the workplace at one time. It has been announced that the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme will remain open until at least the end of September 2021. HR should take into consideration these factors when a business commences reopening.
